Description
Array 4 – Gluten-Associated Cross-Reactive Foods & Foods Sensitivity™
Array 4 is designed for people who avoid gluten (due to celiac or sensitivity) and want to ensure their immune system isn’t mistaking other foods for gluten.
What does this test measure?
It measures IgG/IgA to foods that are known to be “cross-reactive” with gluten antibodies or frequently problematic in gluten-sensitive patients. These foods often include:
- Other grains like corn, rice, millet, oats
- Dairy products (milk, cheese – casein often considered cross-reactive)
- Coffee (some say instant coffee can cross-react immunologically)
- Chocolate, yeast, sesame, soy, potato, egg
- Buckwheat, quinoa, amaranth (common gluten-free grains)
Who is this test most suitable for?
Individuals on a gluten-free diet may still experience symptoms due to their immune systems reacting to proteins other than gluten. This can occur because certain proteins, such as casein found in dairy, have similar structures to gluten and can trigger a reaction in some people. Additionally, individuals may develop new sensitivities over time.
Clinical Use
Healthcare practitioners use this test to treat stubborn cases of gluten-related disorders. Array 4 helps identify which foods that are typically considered safe for a gluten-sensitive person may actually be causing immune responses. For example, if a patient with celiac disease does not recover on a gluten-free diet, Array 4 testing may reveal that other foods, like dairy or corn, are triggering immune reactions. In such cases, these foods should also be eliminated to promote gut healing.
