Description
IgE Food Allergy Advanced Test
What does this test measure?
This is a much broader IgE testing panel covering up to ~93 foods, likely meant to be very comprehensive. It would include not just the top common allergens but a wide variety of foods across all categories:
- Multiple fish and shellfish species
- Many tree nuts and peanuts
- Seeds like sesame, sunflower
- Fruits (apple, peach, banana, citrus, berries, etc.)
- Vegetables (carrot, potato, celery, tomato, etc.)
- Grains (wheat, barley, corn, rice, oats, etc.)
- Legumes (peanut, soy, bean mixes, etc.)
- Spices (mustard, garlic possibly)
- Dairy (milk, whey, casein, goat milk cross-check)
- Egg (white, yolk)
- Meats (beef, chicken, pork, etc.)
Who is this test most suitable for?
- People with multiple known allergies likely to have others
- Patients who had an anaphylactic reaction but uncertain source
- Those in remote areas without easy access to an allergist for skin testing
- Individuals doing elimination diets want to confirm what they can safely reintroduce
Clinical Use
A wide allergy panel can sometimes reveal low-level positive reactions of unclear significance, so results are interpreted cautiously. However, it can detect uncommon allergies, such as garlic or kiwi, which smaller panels might miss. If a patient tests positive for one of these, targeted avoidance can be helpful.
Allergists usually prefer targeted testing based on patient history, as broad panels can produce false positives. Still, these tests are often requested by patients or integrative practitioners. This panel uses serum IgE quantification like the basic panel, but includes a wider range of allergens.
